Dear Colleagues,

The Growth and Development Research Center (GDRC) in collaboration with the Children’s Medical Center (CMC) – the Pediatric Center of Excellence in Iran – and the Department of Pediatrics at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) is honored to annually host the largest academic and clinical gathering of pediatric experts and scholars in all relevant fields, such as pediatric surgery, radiology, and social medicine. Our mission is to advance the specialty of Pediatrics through promoting research, education and clinical practice, and ultimately, improve child health.

The Congress has been successfully held for 28 years, and as the oldest medical congress in Iran, it has contributed significantly to the scientific advancement of the specialty of pediatrics, nationally and beyond. Upon significant improvement of pediatric medical conditions such as diarrheal and respiratory diseases, and subsequent reduction of child mortality, the prevention of noncontagious diseases has become one of the key objectives of the Congress in recent years. In keeping with its mission, a major emphasis of the collaborating centers has become screening for congenital and metabolic diseases.

We firmly believe that scientific development, especially in any medical field, including Pediatrics, requires interdisciplinary teamwork among health care professionals. As such, the Congress has encouraged participation from clinicians, – physicians, nurses, pharmacists – as well as researchers and academicians. Therefore, the International Pediatric Congress has served as a valuable platform for pediatricians to exchange scientific and clinical experiences regardless of their practice settings.

Due to the essential role young researchers play in all disciplines of medicine, especially residents and interns, since 2008, a program entitled "The Young Researchers’ Award", was designed and implemented in conjunction with the International Congress of Pediatrics which has been exceptionally well-received. Thus far, we have witnessed many young researchers participating and presenting the results of their scholarly work and we look forward to their strong attendance as in previous years.

It should be noted that, this year, more than 2,000 national and international doctors, nurses, and researchers have registered and will be participating in the Congress, which will provide a unique opportunity for attendees to meet renowned colleagues, exchange professional experiences and network for joint research activities.

On behalf of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) and the Executive Board of the Children’s Medical Center (CMC), all colleagues are cordially invited and welcomed to participate in the 29th International Congress of Pediatrics.

Dr. Ali Rabbani, M.D.

President, 29th International Congress of Pediatrics

Professor of Pediatrics, Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS)
